HALO

Bristol

Covering seven floors of Grade A office space in Central Bristol next to the floating harbour, Finzels Reach development was once home to sugar refiners and brewers. Halo was designed to set new standards of sustainability, well-being and digital connectivity for offices in Bristol. RIDI Group was therefore selected to supply an appropriate lighting scheme following the success of the adjacent Aurora building ( Aurora, Finzel’s Reach – RIDI Group UK (ridi.co.uk). ) which also achieved BREEAM outstanding. This contributes to a building where state of the art technology and innovative thinking will create the UK’s most sustainable office building.

The main architectural feature of the building is the double height reception and full height naturally lit central atrium that features a helical staircase. The Bush Consultancy architects also wanted this to be a feature of the exterior views of the building. The design concept was to integrate linear embedded LED lighting into the building surfaces. This meant the feature helical staircase required a complex integrated helical lighting scheme to be embedded into it. Working closely with electrical contractors CMB Engineering, RIDI Group UK’s special project team coordinated and supplied a tailor made solution which went together with absolute pre-made precision. The integrated theme was completed with curved sections of lighting running at the same curvature of the main reception window bay. EDLR high output downlighters also supplemented the perimeter areas of the reception along with high output stand-alone EXIDA High-bay emergency heads.

The main office space was lit with AROUND 1000 x RIDI FPL low glare flat panel DALI 600×600 fixtures spread out over 9 floors. Independent EXIDA Performance emergency units were also supplied across the office space.

A cool feature was the cycle store that was creatively lit with the industrial tubular light ZUG luminaire from NORKA. This allows a voluminous light to fill the space very effectively.

A mixture of RIDI EDLR and Brightgreen D550+ downlighters were used throughout core areas as were RIDI Venice linear suspended and recessed products around the lift shafts.
